A recent firmware update left my DS with read and write speeds of anything between 5 and 50 MB/s. Considering it had generally been between 80 and 120 MB/s until then, this was frustrating, and made accessing files on it from another computer sluggish. I logged it with Synology support. Initially they would not help because I had a couple of Amazon.com: Synology 5 bay NAS DiskStation DS1019 Synology's set-up software is complex and its tutorials are not easy to decode (hence the four stars). Drobo software is easier to use for non-experts. It also takes a lot longer for Synology's machines to complete their initial backups.
